Cams
cams.com
Cams.com is one of the oldest webcam sex sites on the internet, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the platform has some male models among their ever-growing and ever-shifting roster of camwhores. Of course, longevity ain’t the only measure of a website’s worth, so naturally I wanted to take a hands-on look at the joint to see if it would be worth recommending to my fellow perverts here at MyGaySites. With any luck, I’d find a treasure trove of naked men shaking their ding-dongs at the camera and at the viewers.
I’ll be honest, I had high hopes. It’s not just the age of the site that got me excited, but all the traffic they get as well. With a good six million visits coming by every month, this shouldn’t be a ghost town. By the numbers alone, Cams.com is a pretty fucking popular live webcam chat site. So, let’s get right into it and see how many real, live dudes are doing their thing within.
Show Me to the Gay Cams, Please
From the outside, I think Cams is one of the nicer looking big cam sites. The logo is simple and classy, and I appreciate the simplified, stripped-down view they’ve given their picture menu of camwhores. The images are presented with no other information than a username, which is a stark contrast from the cluttered views you find on other sites. Sometimes you want to see a bunch of data points, like the number of viewers, a blurb and some relevant tags; other times, the images do all the lifting.
By default, Cams shows you the Female cams. That’s standard on any cam site, and it’s just a reflection on the general demographics of internet masturbators. Most guys tuning in to webcam sites want to watch pretty girls shaking their tits and diddling their skittles, so that’s what you see before you start fucking with the settings.
If you want to see the selection of male camwhores, either follow my link or navigate your way to the Cams Male section via the dropdown menu in the top left corner. I’ll go ahead and warn you now not to get excited by the number of female models, who are presented in a long scroll that goes on and on for a while before you reach the end. Their female selection is mid-tier as far as cam sites go; it ain’t the pitiful collection of sluts you find on the understocked joints, nor is it the nearly endless selection you find on sites like Chaturbate or LiveJasmin.
I didn’t follow my advice about not getting excited, because I didn’t know yet what I’d find filed under Male. Turns out, it’s pretty fucking lackluster. I’m banging out this review on a Tuesday afternoon, and the whole selection of male camwhores on Cams.com consists of exactly three Latino men. Well, fuck. That ain’t promising, now is it?
At Least You Get Free Tokens
With cam sites, what you see is usually what you get. They want to lure in paying users, and one of the biggest ways they do that is by allowing unregistered viewers to see all the free public shows without having to sign up. I’ve seen a few webcam platforms that break this mold, forcing users to sign up to really see much of anything, which always seems like a bad idea to me. It sure seems like leaving money on the table to limit the viewership like that. (For more tips from your old pal ThePornDude on how to run a successful online adult empire, check out my other site, PornWebmasters!)
All three of the male cam shows I found on Cams were viewable even without signing up or signing in to the site. Still, I held out some hope that there was something else waiting inside if I only took the time to register an account. There was another incentive, too: new users to the site get 100 free tokens. The last couple gay cam sites I reviewed skimped out on the signup bonuses, so I was eager to cash in on this one.
Signup is basically instant. Just give them a username, a password and an email address, and you’re in like Flynn. They don’t even make you click a confirmation email. The bad news is that you don’t get those free tokens until you top up for the first time. Packages start at twelve bucks for a couple hundred tokens, with better deals as you spend more money.
For twenty bucks a month (or $42 for three months), you can upgrade to a Cams.com Premiere Membership. That gets you 10% off all live video, free recorded shows from any model on the site, and access to premium content for all models. The signup page also says you, “Get more attention from the models,” though it doesn’t say how. I’m guessing there’s some creator-side icons or something to let them know you’re Premiere, though I’m sure the personal attention you get still boils down to the personal tips you’re tossing in the hat.
Perhaps Premiere Cams members get more attention because the camwhores know Premiere members are willing to spend money. That means you’re more likely to tip, and more likely to join the available Fan Clubs. For fifteen bucks a month, Fan Club membership will give you unlimited access to a camwhore’s recorded shows and nude pics, plus 70% off their live shows. If you really want to connect, Fan Club membership lets you slide into their DMs whenever you want. Now you just have to work on being a smooth-talking smooth operator.
For Real, Is That All?
I’ve got some more bad news about Cams. Well, really it’s just a reprise of the bad news I gave you earlier, a confirmation of what I found but hoped I’d been wrong about. I was hoping to unlock a wider selection of gay camwhores on the site once I’d signed up and logged in, but it was simply not to be. After registering an account and flipping through their prices and info screens, I still only had a few dudes to choose from.
The best thing I can say is that by this point, maybe ten minutes after my initial investigation of the male cams, there were a few more to choose from. Still, that adds up to just half a dozen camboys live at this very moment, which kind of sucks.
For such a small selection of dudes, at least there’s a range of model types. Earlier it was just a few Latinos, but now there’s also a bearded bear smoking a cigarette, a femboy with long hair and lipstick, and a white jock wearing a tank top and brief.
I’ve got to say, I’m surprised and disappointed by the overall lack of selection. The other cam sites that have survived this long tend to have solid selections of live men to crank off to while you watch them cranking off. Cams.com is easy to recommend to straight cam viewers, and it’s an alright choice for trans fans, too. Gay guys looking for male cam models, on the other hand, are probably going to be bummed out.
I just flipped over to the female section to see how the freebies were. It only took me a few seconds to find masturbation shows and a full-on lesbian sex session. By contrast, there was less free action to see in the male area. I did see one guy with a Lovense dangling out of his butthole, so there is a little bit of free gay action to be seen. Honestly, I’d say this is a reflection on how kinky queers are, because I wouldn’t expect to find any freebies at all on a site with just half a dozen female cams.
I’m sorry to tell you, but Cams.com just ain’t where it’s at for gay webcam fans. The few dudes who are performing here have really got their work cut out for them, because it would be easier to make money elsewhere. Then again, maybe they’re counting on the low competition to draw viewers. It doesn’t cost anything but a few seconds of your time to see who’s performing right now, but if you find yourself disappointed and blue-balled, just come back here and choose a better site off my list. I got you, fam.
