Gay Serbia
gay-serbia.com
GaySerbia! I have noticed that many of the websites that I review on this website tend to cater to English readers. Now, I know that most of you must be fluent, of course, but it only seems right to broaden my horizon. Also, considering my mission to cover all of the best gay-oriented sites, it only makes sense. Anyway, this article is on a curious website, Gay-Serbia.com, which has an interesting mix of features that I don’t see on other websites I often write about.
The Most Prominently Shown Feature Are The News Articles
Based on how the website was designed, the main thing promoted is the news stories about LGBTQ people, politics, and the like. The focus will be on Serbia, and I have to say a lot of them are depressing, but they are informative. There are also a decent number of tales coming from around the world.
Besides LGBTQ-specific articles, they have posted everything from sports, music, reviews on media, and sociology. There is even a section referred to as Queeropedia. Overall, this isn’t too shabby a feature.
Looking For Affection And/Or An Amorous Time? Try The Personals
What would a guy website be without a means to hook up? And hey, I don’t think that is a bad thing, it’s fab-tastic. Anyway, the personals section gives you a decent range of search options to find someone to sleep with by age range, what you are looking for (socializing, love, sex), and where they live. Interestingly, there are postings from people in countries besides Serbia, including Bosnia, Germany, and even the United States.
Most of the posts are from Serbia, but there is a decent number (hundreds or dozens) of people from those regions.
The one weird thing is that you can also select being a woman or looking for a girlfriend. That’s not a bad thing to me either, but it does come off as strange given the name of this website.
The Forum Is Certainly A Nice Addition
If there is one thing this website certainly put a lot of work into is the forum. I thought about doing a quickie on this section, but there is plenty of things to talk about, so I figured I’d do a breakdown.
Anteroom
This part of the forum has two major sections that are pretty light-hearted. It does come off a little redundant to me, though, seeing that both are forms of discussion. Still, everyone seems to be having a good time, and there is no reason to think you will have to deal with drama. Well, you might end up talking about other people’s drama, but I don’t think you will have to deal with flame wars.
Gimmie, Gimmie
I am not sure why they titled this section this way, but it’s for two types of people. The first section is for lesbians, though I am sure that you can still participate in the discussions if you are a guy. The other part is focused on a couple of things – talks about love and sexuality, in general. It looks good to me, but as the website says, “love, love, but do not lose your head.”
Queer and Here
One of the sections here is a place to talk about general queer issues along with transgender topics, intersex issues, and articles about asexuality.
If you live in Europe, there is a nice collection of threads about different places to go out clubbing, go for dates, and other places to hang out.
Other things include activism, how to come out, issues involving marriage equality, raising your children, and similar topics.
Neither in Heaven Nor on Earth
Do you like to talk about deeper issues? And I’m not talking about how best to hit that p-spot when bottoming. I mean things like metaphysics, parallel worlds, mythology, and everyone’s (least) favorite topic that affects queer people: religion.
The Most Important Side of Things
This is another general section to talk about what most people do online. I am talking about music, fashion, art, health, and other things like that. Sure, that may sound boring if you are talking about gay stuff on a gay website, but I like it.
All Sorts of Things
This is another hodge-podge collection of things to talk about. I think they should have been included in The Most Important Side of Things, but the topics are interesting. These things include cooking and recipes, tourism and travel, technology, and everything else.
Site
Curiously, this section is at the bottom of the page since every forum I’ve ever seen, these sorts of threads are about the rules and regulations regarding behavior. That may sound boring, but I would give this a look before posting at all.
They Also Host A Chatroom As Well
It is not the best-looking chatroom that I have ever seen, to be honest. Indeed, I found it quite bland really. But it is cool that besides having an impressive forum, the designers included a section to live chat. I don’t know, I’m not the most confident in that position, so I would be interested in what you guys think of this part of the website.
Another Thing That I Am Not Sure About Is The Mobile Version
It only makes sense to me to check out how this website looks, in general, and across devices. The layout of Gay Serbia on desktop machines looks good; at least the Serbian version does, which I will explain later. Anyway, I like how links and text are presented and have a unique design that I don’t see very often. Good on the designers for that.
However, how the platform looks on mobile is another story. It’s not unbearable to look at, and navigating around isn’t impossible. But that said, I think that it could be optimized since it really has not been.
I Sure Do Appreciate The Absence Of Advertisements
One thing that can really ruin my experience on a website, even if it has some sweet stuff on it, is when it is packed with banner ads. On the other hand, something that really chaps my ass is when it is littered with pop-ups all over the place. I am happy to say that this website has a few of the former and none of the latter. In light of that, I tip my hat to the creators of Gay-Serbia.com.
Read The Terms of Service Before You Register
I cannot state enough that if you are going to join a website, any of them that have a social aspect, you should read what a platform’s rules are. This is generally good practice and also an excellent way to avoid the frustration of being booted from a platform over bullshit reasons. But don’t sweat it too much, though. My reading of this website’s rules aren’t anything too complex to understand.
As always, though, I think that we should go over who will most enjoy this sort of gay site.
This Website Might Seem Niche To A Lot Of You
Since this is a Serbian website, the default language will be Serbo-Croatian, which I am going to go out on a limb and say that many of you don’t read. For that reason, I am sure that this website may not be interesting given the language barrier.
Granted, if you register, you can switch from Latin-script-style Serbian to British English, so that’s kind of neat. However, I cannot promise how great it will go since certain elements on this website do not always translate well no matter what you do. It’s also super weird to me that the Serbian and British versions look entirely different. The British variant looks okay, but I prefer what I assume is the original.
There Are Those Who Might Like This Website’s Services
However, if you are Serbian, live in the surrounding region, or speak the language and have an interest in the LGBT culture of that region, you might like this website. Hell, if you are looking to keep up with queer Eastern European news, live chatting, and debating with people online, then this looks like a fun site to visit from time to time.
Getting an account is entirely free and doesn’t take much of your time. I think that this is a website that deserves a solid four hands.
