The homepage

So, this is probably the most important page of Yaoi Otaku (especially if you are new to Yaoi and you are eager to learn more about it). It's also a great place to start if you are already familiar with Yaoi in general, but you want to run into some new stuff randomly. Scroll through the home page a little and see if you like any of the books you see in here. Once you do find something that appeals to you, you should click on it, and right after this, you will be taken to another section of YaoiOtaku. Well, it's still the home page, but after you've clicked on a book, you go to a different part of it (which is something that should be expected, since the same thing happens on most porn websites).

If you clicked on a somewhat popular porno manga, odds are that you will probably have a review written for this manga by someone from the admin team of YaoiOtaku, which is great. No one wants to read through a book without any knowledge about the book itself beforehand. Well, some people do that, but most don't, and we're trying to appeal to the majority in here.

So, now that you've clicked on a manga, you get to see all the information about it. First off, the full name is put on display. Right underneath the section where the name of the manga is placed, you get to see the name of the author. Underneath this section, you will find the "genres," and basically, you can treat this section as the "tags" section that you can find on your average porno website.

So instead of finding stuff like "anal", "hardcore" (even though there certainly is a whole lot of anal action on this page, I mean it's about drawn gay porn after all) in the tags (genres), you will run into stuff like "adult", "historical", "psychological", "slice of life" and so on.

You know how most porn websites will let you know when the movie you're currently watching was posted? Well, YaoiOtaku will do the same with your manga. Right underneath the "genres" section, you will find the release date. It doesn't always give you the exact date, but it does show you the exact year when the manga was posted. YaoiOtaku also talks about the status of the manga in its country of origin.

So, if it has like two volumes and if it's complete (or incomplete), YaoiOtaku will let you know for sure. It also informs you about the name of the person who scanned the manga. Next, if you keep on scrolling, you will get to see a short summary of the manga. The summary is usually written in like 150 words, which is alright. I am personally used to reading longer reviews of books, but this is fine as well.

If you keep scrolling you will get two very important pieces of information. First off, YaoiOtaku will let you know whether you can download this manga in particular. Usually, the manga can be downloaded, but it can't be read online quite often. However, this doesn't always have to be the case. Sometimes the manga is only readable online, but it can't be downloaded. However, even the ones that "can't be downloaded" can be downloaded with a little bit of help from some special software, I guess. Next, I'll mention that we get a small text which contains the post's author's opinion, which is neat.

A summary of the manga, and the opinion of the author if the post, that's pretty great. YaoiOtaku makes sure that you don't waste any time reading a manga that you don't like. Take a look at the bottom of the page and what you find is the name of the author. You may leave a comment down there as well to show your appreciation for the review, or you can just be a straight-up grade-A asshole if you want to.

The other sections

You will also find a "yaoi anime" section in here as well, which is quite nice for the people who don't enjoy scrolling through pages and stuff like that but would rather watch animated boys touching each other awkwardly and falling in love, and sometimes going even further than that. Well, you won't be seeing any sex in anime, at least no uncensored sex. Hell, even if you managed to find hentai, it would be censored as well, but at least you can see the entire naked body.

However, none of this happens in this section, so you will have to focus on something else. This section works in the same manner as the "yaoi manga" section works. You get to see a lot of thumbnails and when you've finally decided on which anime you want to see, you click on a thumbnail (you don't get a fuckton of ads all over on your face once you click, which is great, too), and you get the same kind of info you get from the manga on YaoiOtaku.

You get to see the English name of the anime, the alternative names it has, the genres, and the date when the anime was released. The status is available as well (and by this I mean the number of episodes and you get to see whether the anime is complete or not). You get a summary as well. Something that is also very nice is the fact that you almost always get a bunch of links to torrent your anime. You almost always get the links you need to download your anime, but you don't always get the ones you need to stream the anime, which is fine.

There's one more section which is entirely dedicated to "boy love movies" or in short "BL Movies." This one isn't even about animated movies. These are just straight up movies about real-life people who just so happen to fall in love. Rarely are these movies too explicit. Maybe a softcore scene might end up here and there, but hardcore scenes aren't something that occurs too often here. A /M/M novels section exist as well, but there's only a little bit of content in here. Nothing but basic-ass novels about real dudes falling in love. I'm assuming this one doesn't get too much traffic, but it's still up there, so I guess someone's reading.

The design of the page

I absolutely have to mention that the design of YaoiOtaku.com is actually great, which was something I sure didn't expect when I saw the name of the website. Most pages that are entirely dedicated to nothing but to manga and stuff like that don't have much going for them. Basically, they just slap thumbnails on top of an ugly background, and they call it a day. However, YaoiOtaku has made a wonderful page design which consists of a yellow/grey background on top of which you find a bunch of thumbnails. You get a little bit of info underneath these thumbnails, the date when it was posted, the name of it, and that would be it. Same goes for the anime and the boylove novels and movies. You get to see how old they are and you get to see their names, which is quite enough.

In the end

YaoiOtaku.com comes off as a well-made website that is entirely dedicated to all things that involve guy x guy loving. Whether it be Japanese comics or western novels, YaoiOtaku has it all. However, you should know that they do not focus on hardcore pornography, but rather, you get lots of softcore content and "teasing," which might not be your cup of tea. The page has made sure to provide download links or links where you can stream/read your anime or your manga on the internet, and all of this is completely free. However, you'll often have to create an account in order to watch/download your movie/manga.
